Jack of all trades, master of none January 30, 2010 Ariel Goldschmidt 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this Puerto Rico guide based on the positive reviews on this site, and was disappointed. This book is chalk full of information - a little bit about this, a little bit about that - but the information is spread out so thin that ultimately it is practically useless. Also, the beautiful color pictures are limited to just the first few pages. After that, everything it is all in black and white.
Book very useful November 11, 2009 Johanna Soliday Bought this book for my daughter. She and her friend say they are finding it very useful for planning their upcoming trip to Puerto Rico.
Great tour descriptions and restaurant reviews! October 1, 2009 Joerg Meyer (Irvine, CA, U.S.A.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3G7B274R1APGZ The book has very good tour descriptions and restaurant recommendations. I highly recommend this book!
Great book for the average traveler May 1, 2009 Delilah Lily (Cleveland, Oh) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book doesn't have quite as much detail as the Rough Guide or Fodors, but for the average traveler, it's pretty darn good. It may not give you all the history or other details of a place but it will tell you enough highlights so that you can make up your mind about what you want to see and it will give you a few suggestions for the best (and best deals) on restaurants and hotels in each place as well. If you're someone who wants to know all the details, go for Rough Guide or Fodors. But if your the average traveler, and especially if you plan to spend most of your days in San Juan or at some other beach and you just want enough info to take a few day trips, the Moon book will be likely become your favorite.
Don't bother! March 22, 2008 Ray Villasenor (Orange County, CA United States) 8 out of 14 found this review helpful
This has got to be one of the worst travel books I have ever purchased. The book is extremely vague. It is as though all the tourism companies and restaurants got together and had this book printed. Picture a typical travel magazine with a few informative articles on what to do and see, then filled with tons of advertising from companies that want your money. The book is good at telling you what, where, and when but does not elaborate on how to get there. If your an adventurous traveler like me and likes to find and do things the locals do or likes to do the tourist things without paying one of the local companies to guide you (they always want you to do and see things on there schedule) the book is worthless. The book tells you where the great beaches are and gives vague directions on how to get to them but doesn't give any mile (km in Puerto Rico) markers or landmark references. This a big problem because in Puerto Rico almost none of the streets are markerd once your out of the big cities and even in the cities your lucky to find a street name. I was looking for books by Andrew Doughty but he only does Hawaii. If you ever go to Hawaii looks for his "Revealed" series, he writes the most detailed travel book. On the other hand it gets two starts because it does tell you where the good stuff is and for those less adventurous it's a great reference guide to all the local tourism companies.
