Product Description Can a shoe this sturdy give you happy feet? It can if it's a Unisex 4 Eye Gibson from Dr. Martens. Built with patented Flexlink technology for comfort like you've never known, this shoe sports a Goodyear welt that will guarantee you'll never see the inside of a shoe repair shop. The Crazy Horse leather upper should go well with any of your casual clothes, making them destined to be a wardrobe favorite. Benefits of Flexlink Technology As the foot flexes, the Flexlink technology in the forefoot filler softens the compression. An Ortholite insole with open cell foam increases breathability and aids in shock absorption. A leather-hinged footbed flexes in tandem with the Flexlink forefoot to enhance flexibility and comfort. Finally, a unique compression chamber cushion system absorbs footfall shock from heel to forefoot. About Dr. Martens Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Watch out: fit not true to size July 17, 2008 Mario Lopez (Cali, Columbia) This was supposed to be my second pair of Dr. Martens. I was quite disappointed when they arrived, I ordered the same size (7 UK) of my previous pair for this pair and they turned out to be smaller! If you're ordering this model, look at the size conversion chart and go one size up of your actual size.
I love this shoe! July 10, 2008 M. Simerson (Seattle, WA usa) I have begun standing while working at my computer. As such, I needed something much better than tennis shoes to support my feet and knees. I read quite a few favorable reviews on this shoe and decided it was worth a try. The break-in period mentioned by reviewers is real. It took a good solid week of wearing before they started feeling "broke in." Now that they are broken in, they are my favorite pair of shoes and probably the single finest pair of shoes I have ever purchased. They look great, I can walk miles in them in perfect comfort, my feet don't seem to sweat in them as much as other shoes (not sure why that is?), and my knees are much happier with me after a long day of standing at my desk. In 2-3 years when I've worn this shoe out, I won't even hesitate to click "buy it now" on a new pair.
wrong fit for a u.s. 9 January 19, 2008 Gregory A. Vandeventer shoe size was wrong, felt like the shoes were seconds. Sent them back for a replacement, or refund on the 26th of Dec. today is the 19th of Jan. and still have not received any new shoes, or heard from anyone via, e-mail, or phone. Customer service sucks since they already received payment from credit card. But the shoes look really nice.....if they fit anyone from america??
doc martens January 8, 2008 Mary Houston (Shoreline, Wa USA) I purchased these doc martens for a Christmas present for my son. The service was excellent and the shoes are great. The quality is excellent as is the comfort. I would not hesitate to purchase again from amazon.
Be careful about sizing May 15, 2007 A reader (New York, NY) If you wear a half size, they blithely tell you just to buy the next whole size up. That's a great idea . . . if you want a pair of shoes that doesn't fit. That's why I did, and ended up with a pair of too-loose shoes that were always uncomfortable. Then I tried the next whole size down. Too tight! Memo to Dr Martens - half sizes exist for a reason! Too bad, I really like these shoes otherwise.
