Good idea-bad design September 16, 2008 Rebecca Toy (Aberdeen, WA United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I waited for years to afford these shoes and FINALLY got them for my birthday and was oh so excited to finally get my MBT shoes! Well in all honesty, I love the sole design and how the spine is instantly put into alignment...that part is great. The things I do NOT like: The toe box is narrow and my toes feel like they are too tight in there although the shoes are plenty long enough. The uppers are thick, stiff leather which should wear for years but does NOT break in to allow them to conform to feet enough to be comfortable. They are extremely HOT which may be ok for cold winter months but that's only a few months of the year. I actually got mine in February and they were too hot by April and I live on the North-West coast of United States where our summers are in the 60's! The inside/liner is flat with NO arch support and very hard. They are really NOT comfortable to me. I am completely into fitness and anything that is good for the body so the idea of MBT was very appealing to me. These shoes could be SO much better if the upper was designed more comfortably. It would also be a plus if they actually LOOKED GOOD as well! I would have to say that the narrow toe box is probably the worst part for me as I am used to my toes being able to spread out enough so as not to feel claustrophobic in a pair of shoes.
Love them July 9, 2008 Bets (Mpls, MN USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
MBT White Sport Walkers I love these shoes. Very comfortable and great for walking.
Best Sneakers in the world May 8, 2008 Robin Aiscowitz (Egg Harbor Township, NJ United States) I do a lot of walking as I do not drive. These sneakers are the best I have ever worn and despite the high price, they are worth their weight in gold. I am on my feet all day and these sneakers are great. My lower back does not hurt as much and neither do my knees.
Phenominal Shoes - Worth the 'small' Investment March 26, 2008 C. Batten (Rochester, NY USA) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
After reading about the many health benefits of wearing this shoe and struggling over what size I should order (not to mention which style would be most flattering)... I finally decided to just locate a local MBT dealer (in my case, it was 'Foot Solutions') to make my first purchase live and in person. Unfortunately, my local Foot Solutions store had not yet received the Spring 2008 collection, so all of the fresh and slightly more hip styles weren't available for me to try on. That said; this particular style isn't really all that bad. A little clunky looking in the toe, but I already knew that these shoes weren't going to be svelte looking to start. I'm extremely glad that I made my purchase in-store versus online and would encourage first time buyers to do the same. For starters, there is so much conflicting information online about the size and fit of these shoes. Many online reviewers will advise you to order half a size up, while some advise a full size increase is necessary, while others will state that they fit 'true to size'. I've also read a few reviews that advise your toe should actually touch the front of the shoe, as the shoe design will force your foot to push back on the heel. Let me clarify that the enclosed booklet does state that you do need a perfect fit because of this push back motion, but it does not state that your toe should touch the front of the shoe! Both the MBT Trained Sales Associate and the instructional DVD (which comes with the sneakers) advise that your toes should NOT be touching the front of the shoe. After trying on my regular shoe size and one 1/2 size up, I found that the 1/2 size increase was a better fit for me. Aside from avoiding the wrong size, another benefit of buying in-store is that you might receive some live instruction/coaching on how to walk and stand in the shoes. My natural instinct when I first stood in these was to shift my weight back and 'rest' on the heel. Doing this will not promote proper posture nor activate the many muscles used for balance. I was instructed to find the balance bar in the center of the foot and to stand straight on that instead. Once I found this and stood up straight upon it, I felt a dramatic difference. I could feel my leg muscles tense slightly 'all around' to maintain balance (not excessive, tiresome tension - just a slight noticeable tension). Walking wasn't difficult to master, but again, I naturally went about it the wrong way. I was forcing my walk from the very back of my heel to toe (as I had come to believe that the purpose of the exaggerated sloped heel was so that it could be fully utilized in this manner). Kindly, the Sales Associate advised that I should be stepping some place closer to that balance bar I had previously located while standing still, then roll forward from that position (not the very back of the heel as I had been doing). This felt far more natural to me and then suddenly, while pacing around in circles, I felt like I was gliding on air! Neat :-). About me: I'm already a fairly active individual with good posture. I run 5 days a week and include plenty of walking time on my off days. I'm 5'4, 105lbs, and have no weight or health issues that I was hoping to resolve through the use of these shoes. I have narrow heels, normal arches, and a slight tendency to pronate. My interest in these shoes were purely from an injury preventative measure, as I hope to build and/or maintain my leg strength, while improving my balance and coordination. After having worn these shoes for a few days now (during all of my non-running activities and errands) - I 100% believe that these shoes will meet my needs. I would recommend these shoes to friends and family, but would be cautious if you have an extreme tendency to over-pronate or over-supinate. I think it's possible these shoes could potentially do more harm than good. Con's: In my opinion the only downside to these shoes would be their limited width sizing options. They only offer a size 'B' (Medium Width). My 'A' sized heel slips in these sneakers (even with thick socks), though double lacing the top loop fixes this problem for me. My boyfriend (who requires an 'EEEEE' width shoe), is entirely unable to wear these (though I doubt I could convince him to wear them otherwise - they're not exactly the most fashionable shoes in the world). Anyways, my point is that at $200+ dollars, I shouldn't have to double lace my shoes to keep my heel in place. Aside from this one minor inconvenience, I do happen to LOVE my MBT's and will continue to purchase these shoes in the future.
THESE WORK!! January 1, 2008 Carolyn Arturi (New Jersey) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought these sport shoes 3 years ago and paid a lot more money then what they go for here. I wore them religiously for three months straight and it was difficult, my legs hurt, my buttocks hurt, I started wearing them out a lot and they were difficult to casually walk in because you are being forced to walk the correct way. Anyway, I immediatley noticed my backside firmed up, my legs toned, it was amazing. I am on the petite side but after having a c-section my back muscles were destroyed and I suffered severe backaches all the time. Not anymore. These past three years I have worn them every day to work, not only is my back 95% better I have a backside you can bounce a quarter off of and my abs have definition. And I kid you not I do not workout in a gym. Plus being 5 feet tall it's nice to have the added height these shoes give me!! Def advise others to try them out they are awesome!!
