Album Description Two-time Grammy®-nominated Tiempo Libre is one the hottest young Latin bands today. Equally at home in concert halls, jazz clubs and dance venues, the members of the Miami-based band are true modern heirs to the rich tradition of the music of their native Cuba. Tiempo Libre's members were all classically trained at Cuba's premiere conservatories during a time when it was illegal to listen to American songs on the radio. Now, the group is a hit in the U.S. and abroad, celebrated for its incendiary, joyful performances of timba, an irresistible, dance-inducing mix of high-voltage Latin jazz and the seductive rhythms of son. It is their mission to proudly share their musical heritage through their concerts, workshops, master classes with as wide an audience as possible, reinterpreting and reinvigorating traditional Cuban music with a youthful, modern sound and forging a new style incorporating their Afro-Cuban roots and their new American experience. Their debut CD for Sony Masterworks, BACH IN HAVANA, unites the two musical worlds of the Tiempo Libre's Cuban childhoods. The album connects the rhythm and sensibilities of Afro-Cuban music with the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach and features special guest appearances by the legendary Paquito D'Rivera and Cuban-born sax player, Yosvany Terry. Born from a land where cultures collide and worlds merge, the music of Cuba is mysterious and seductive, earthly and otherworldly, intoxicating and irresistible. Now with BACH IN HAVANA, Tiempo Libre's members continue to simultaneously walk in two distinct worlds and celebrate the universality of music.

Everyone loves BACH!!! September 3, 2009 Darlene A. Nelson (Jacksonvile, Il USA) Who says the classics are stodgy? This CD proves that Bach is ageless! This is the perfect music for a lawn party.
excellent September 3, 2009 Ellyn M. Halpern (NJ,USA) I saw Tiempo Libre this summer at Tanglewood when I attended the James Galway Concert for his 70th birthday. Couldn't believe how great this group was and decided then I wanted their CD. Well worth it!
but this August 31, 2009 Anthony J. Fernandez (san francisco CA) i heard this cd on the latin jazz program on kcsm with the dj chuey its so cool virtuosic cuban musicians using havanna style with bach melodies hip hip hip
Super disk June 25, 2009 K. Friedman (Indianapolis, IN USA) I discovered this group and this disk when I heard an interview on public radio. I didn't think twice--just rushed to Amazon and bought it. I love it! The idea behind it is unique, and the rearrangements of classical pieces with a Latin beat are ingenious. This group is just dynamic. I encourage anyone with a love of Latin music--even if Classical isn't in their usual musical repertoire--to check this one out. It's fabulous!
What A Little Gem June 17, 2009 lasenoracalidelacasaroxo (Oakland, CA USA) I love Latin jazz. I bought this CD on a whim. I had heard only a little bit of this CD at the store, but it was enough to convince me that this was great listening.
Was I shocked.... : )
The player at the store couldn't play everything on the CD, of course. But, what they only allow you to hear at the store does this CD such a huge injustice. This wasn't just great listening. This is music you can never get tired of hearing ever! This is now my favorite Latin jazz CD. The music here is so refreshing!
To think of any of Bach's songs, and hear them interpreted the way they are in this CD is such a delight! Gavotte Son brings such joy to my heart! Minuet in G Guaguanco reminds me of when I had first heard of Minuet in G at the age of 7. The version then brought me great joy. Tiempo Libre's version compounds my joy by way of recognition, and the versatility of this great music.
If I have a complaint, the songs on here are not long enough. They are so thoroughly enjoyable! I mean, if you go out to hear Latin jazz, the sets are long. I wish each of the songs on this CD were just at least five minutes longer. But, maybe they are following Bach's compositions true to form by way of length. Either way....
Get this CD. You will not regret it!!!! : )
