Album Description Two-time Grammy®-nominated Tiempo Libre is one the hottest young Latin bands today. Equally at home in concert halls, jazz clubs and dance venues, the members of the Miami-based band are true modern heirs to the rich tradition of the music of their native Cuba. Tiempo Libre's members were all classically trained at Cuba's premiere conservatories during a time when it was illegal to listen to American songs on the radio. Now, the group is a hit in the U.S. and abroad, celebrated for its incendiary, joyful performances of timba, an irresistible, dance-inducing mix of high-voltage Latin jazz and the seductive rhythms of son. It is their mission to proudly share their musical heritage through their concerts, workshops, master classes with as wide an audience as possible, reinterpreting and reinvigorating traditional Cuban music with a youthful, modern sound and forging a new style incorporating their Afro-Cuban roots and their new American experience. Their debut CD for Sony Masterworks, BACH IN HAVANA, unites the two musical worlds of the Tiempo Libre's Cuban childhoods. The album connects the rhythm and sensibilities of Afro-Cuban music with the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach and features special guest appearances by the legendary Paquito D'Rivera and Cuban-born sax player, Yosvany Terry. Born from a land where cultures collide and worlds merge, the music of Cuba is mysterious and seductive, earthly and otherworldly, intoxicating and irresistible. Now with BACH IN HAVANA, Tiempo Libre's members continue to simultaneously walk in two distinct worlds and celebrate the universality of music.

Bach, Brass and Beyond March 10, 2010 Temple Porter (La-la Land) Bach's music has been adapted to many musical genres: Swingle Singers, Japanese koto, Moog synthesizer, plus countless others, with diverse results. Baroque music itself has a rapid beat, which lends itself easily to Cuban tempos. Tiempo Libre does a stunning job of incorporating Bach's music into their pulsating music, sometimes exploring Bach's motifs with their own variations. What becomes clear on this album is their deep appreciation of Bach's genius, and their joy at performing it. Altogether a fully enjoyable compilation.
Tiempo Libre - un poco frio February 16, 2010 Harry Giovanoni (Chicago, Ill.) I was a bit disappointed in this cd. I expected more pretty bossa nova music like the classic Antonio Carlos Jobim or Joao Gilberto. Although the classical themes are nice, I thought more could have been done with the arrangements. However, the tunes that are done with an orchestral background are very good.
Bach habla con el jazz December 24, 2009 L. Domkowski (Chicago) Pure musical fun for the Latin, Jazz or Classical music lover. And for those who are particular with how Bach is to be enjoyed... Sit down enjoy and relax, if possible. Fiesta with dancing may result.
Everyone loves BACH!!! September 3, 2009 Darlene A. Nelson (Jacksonvile, Il USA) Who says the classics are stodgy? This CD proves that Bach is ageless! This is the perfect music for a lawn party.
excellent September 3, 2009 Ellyn M. Halpern (NJ,USA) I saw Tiempo Libre this summer at Tanglewood when I attended the James Galway Concert for his 70th birthday. Couldn't believe how great this group was and decided then I wanted their CD. Well worth it!
