Product Description Critically acclaimed guitarist/songwriter, famed Yankee BERNIE WILLIAMS is set for his sophomore album MOVING FORWARD. The Puerto Rico native, classically-trained musician developed his love for playing guitar alongside baseball, while listening to salsa, merengue and 80s rock. Williams played his 16-year career with the New York Yankees where he was a 4x World Series Champion and a 5x All Star (also among the Yankees all-time leaders in every major batting category). This album features original instrumentals written/performed by Williams, playing alongside musicians such as Dave Weckl (drums), Mike Stern (guitar), Scott Henderson (guitar), Dave Koz (sax), Giovanni Hidalgo (percussion). A special collaboration with Jon Secada and a track with Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa and Bernie performing Glory Days are included. MOVING FORWARD is co-produced by Williams and Loren Harriet - who also helmed Bernie's 2003 acclaimed debut The Journey Within, that debuted #3 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Album Chart, #8 on Heatseekers, while being the 11th best seller in New York that year.

Great Talent, but would like a more homogeneous recording October 8, 2009 Christine (Florida) We play music not only in the car, but also in the evening before dinner.
So we especially enjoyed those pieces that were quieter and smoother background
music, and would like to have heard them grouped on one CD.
Bernie Williams plays well off the field, too. October 1, 2009 P. W. Peterson (Bloomfield, NJ) Saw/heard Bernie Williams on the Yankees Network playing cuts from this album, and immediately ordered it. His rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" manages to capture the deep emotions of the man: his love of the game he played so brilliantly and his sorrow at retiring from it. It's sweet and heart-wrenching and musically perfect. I always think that a musician who can take a well-known, even trite, song and re-invent it musically is showing us his Best Stuff. Bernie does that. I will refrain from a baseball metaphor--just listen for yourself.
The rest of the records melds the best of Latin rhythm jazz with Bernie's tasty guitar lines. Very, very nice music. Lively and powerful.
CD/DVD September 25, 2009 Nightengale (Ma.) Bernie Williams CD is great while you are driving and just at ease...
Great songs and easy listening...good choice for any person...
5 stars for sure! August 18, 2009 Larry Gott (Dallas, TX USA) I heard Bernie play on the Mike Huckabee show a few months ago, and HAD to get this album. He played the title song "Moving Forward" with the Huckabee group "The Little Rockers". It was just a small clue about how good Bernie and his REAL group would be, and I listened to all the songs here on Amazon (Always a good idea!) before making my final decision to purchase.
This is my favorite album leaps and bounds over any other that I have. I never realized I liked salsa jazz so much -- although not all the cuts are salsa. I kept thinking over and over how good the musicians were, not a missed note, not a sloppy slide, everything crisp and clear. And Bernie's guitar must be a $40,000 one, it has such clear bell-tones. (After all, he can afford it!)
My favorites cuts are "Moving Forward", "Addicted to You", and the rocker "Just Another Day". Undecided? Listen here, and then go buy!
The man can play guitar, too! August 11, 2009 L. Richards (Trinity, FL USA) Bernie's been my favorite Yankee since '96 so while I'm a little biased I also know music, especially guitar players. Bernie knows how to play guitar! And while I personally am not crazy about this style of jazz, I can still appreciate the quality of musicianship of not only Bernie but the rest of his band as well. Personally, "Take Me Out to the Ballpark" alone is worth the price of the CD but jazz lovers and guitar afficianados alike will find much to enjoy.
