5 out of 5 stars Belefonte memories   March 15, 2010
JB (Audubon, MN USA)
I had to have this CD as I used to listen to it daily back in my college days--on an album at that time. I rather wore it out and it was time to replace. He has such a smooth voice it is easy to imagine yourself in the place he is singing about. Love it.

2 out of 5 stars BEST SONGS OMITTED   May 28, 2009
Paul Dimiter (Bethesda, MD USA)
This "remastered" CD for reasons known only to its creators is lacking three
of the great songs on the original album, these being "Take My Mother Home," "La Bamba" and "All My Trials, Lord< Soon Be Over." A shame that borders on
cultural crime.

1 out of 5 stars What a shame   February 20, 2009

As some one else said, this would have been a five star if the complete concert had been included. I just received and listened to the CD "Belafonte at Carnegie Hall"[[ASIN:B000002W95 ]]. As I was listening to it I started to get the feeling some songs were missing: I still have the original vinyl version and am looking at it right now; there are indeed songs missing from the CD version: "Take my Mother Home," "Man Piaba," "All my trials, and "Merci Bon Dieu." Nearly 20 to 25 percent of the original concert has been deleted, But the CD is still being marketed using the same exact cover as the orignal vinyl version. I really feel this is a sham and a shame.

This is Harry's concert at Carnegie Hall in 1959. For anyone who is a Belafonte fan, this CD is an absolute must!

4 out of 5 stars The CD is NOT the same as the original vinyl.   May 19, 2008

Downgraded from the 5 star a true copy would have gotten. I had bought the CD of this years ago to "protect" my vinyl copy. The original is heads and shoulders above the CD. In part because the missing songs are so rare, and the missing chatter was part of what made this recording so unique. The story is Carnegie Hall was in danger of closing. The original live recording was of a concert to save it. It was so successful, the Hall was kept open, and he returned the next year for another recorded concert "Return to Carnegie Hall". The last song on the CD is nowhere to be found on my original vinyl. Did they just realize they had to fill something in for the butchering they did to the master? Some of the missing songs can be found on the mp3 downloads. But the audience interraction is gone perhaps forever. Such a shame.
