Album Description This compilation of music from the Bahamas includes goombay rake-and-scrape dance bands (goombay refers to both the skin drum and the ensemble as a whole), spirituals, and fingerpicking guitar music. All the performers on this recording participated in the 1994 Festival of American Folklife, an annual event presented on the Mall in Washington, D.C., by the Smithsonian Institute's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. They were recorded in Nassau on 2 and 3 February 1995.

The Bahamas: Islands of Song June 15, 2000 Carrie (Richmond, VA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love this CD. I got it as a gift and I was really not sure about such a CD. I don't own many International Selections. However, I tried it out and loved it. I recently had a party and based it on an island theme. I played the CD and everyone wanted to know where I got it. I told them a friend got it for me as a gift and it just so happened they purchased it on this site. I thought that was great. I know several of my friends have a already purchased it. This is one of the best island CDS I have heard, a very clear, crisp sound and lots of dancing, moving music. I suggest this to anyone who is into the sounds of the islands, enjoy and listen to it in good company :)
