The 10.1-inch screen has a WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600) and support for up a 262K color depth. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses shared video memory with the main memory. Compared to normal TFT LCDs, Acer CrystalBrite technology is able to read color coordinates more accurately, thus minimizing distortion and creating high-fidelity colors in all environments.

Power-Sipping Processor

The Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power--less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor--for excellent battery management. This 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).

3 out of 5 stars Aspire= trying but missing the mark   March 10, 2010
Christopher Plummer (Baltimore, MD USA)
I think it is kinda truth in advertising that they named this netbook "aspire" because it sorely misses the mark in two important areas. 1) The wireless modem is just terrible. I don't know what it is.. it is SLOW and unrealable.. have to keep attempting web page loads at times.. I am in the same room with my wireless modem and it still hangs, stalls.. When I plug the land line in everything is fine, so it isn't the computer.. it's the wireless modem. 2) The speakers are a damn joke. the volume on this is SO low that you have to use headphones.. Why bother putting speakers in? I can not understand how this can not be loud enough so that you can watch a movie in a quiet empty hotel room.. But.. you get what you pay for so I guess that I am happy with it despite these shortcomings..

5 out of 5 stars Great netbook - highly recommended.   February 28, 2010
Karen Hall (Northeast Ohio)
I wanted a netbook for almost a year, but I kept hesitating to get one due to the price, and in the early days, the tiny hard drives. I didn't need it for school or business, I just wanted it for fun, so it was kind of an expensive indulgence that I was having a hard time justifying.

I found this one for under $300 and decided to go for it. I haven't regretted it a day since. In fact, though I initially thought the netbook would just receive "once in awhile" use, I love it so much it has become my main computer, I use it for everything, and I take it with me every where I go (in a padded sleeve, in my purse). It's almost as powerful as, and has almost as big a hard drive as, my former main computer (a 2 1/2 year old Toshiba laptop).

Due to the much larger hard drive, I was able to load several programs onto it that I didn't originally plan to have on the netbook, and everything works fine (without a memory upgrade). I don't run any high intensity games, so I can't say how they would do, but I have photo editing software on it, and Audacity (free recording software) with which I record for [...] (volunteers recording public domain texts to make audio books available for free online), and both of them work fine.

I type for a living, so a wonky keyboard would have driven me nuts. This is a very nice-sized keyboard. I have no problem typing on it at speed.

The screen is very nice. As others mentioned, it's pretty glossy, but I've had no issue with it; the only time it is a problem at all is when I'm outside with the netbook in bright sunlight, but just changing the angle works fine. The only issue I've had with the screen is due to it's small resolution, occasionally I run onto a pop-up dialogue box in a program or on a website that I can't quite see all of, but there's no scroll bar. It is a mild inconvenience, but this has only happened a couple times (and I use the netbook extensively, daily), and it hasn't yet been anything that's caused any real problem ... and I knew when I bought it that it was - obviously - going to have a small screen. That was the point of getting a netbook, it's small size. (And there may well be a workaround for that, I just haven't tried to find out because it hasn't been a big deal).

The touchpad has worked fine for me. The battery life is extremely good - when fully charged, it actually has just over 4 hours of juice. I did some research, and read that this type of battery doesn't suffer from that memory loss problem if you charge it without running it clear down first, but what will damage it over time is over-charging it. So I never leave the netbook plugged in when I'm not using it. I plug it in to charge it when the battery gets low, and make sure I unplug it as soon as I can after it reaches full charge. It charges very fast, and so far the battery life has been great. (I've had it about a month)

If something happened to this one, I'd replace it with an identical model in a heartbeat. I'd recommend it to my friends. In fact, a friend of mine had one first, and loves it, which is partly what convinced me to buy this one.

One last thing, and what prompted me to come write this review today. Last night I knocked over an entire glass of rum and ginger ale right on top of the keyboard and all over the screen. I mean, I saturated the thing. "Panic" doesn't even cover it. I immediately grabbed the netbook and turned it upside down, powered it down, and pulled the battery, then left it sitting upside down for awhile before cleaning it up and putting it back together. I also left it open overnight. I thought for sure it was a goner, and was truly heartbroken, but today - everything works fine! A few keys are a wee bit sticky now, but it's barely noticeable, and that's really the very least of my concerns. Of course, I would not recommend making a habit of keeping beverages sitting anywhere near it or testing this theory (you can bet I learned my lesson!), but I was very impressed with it's durability.

Overall - a great netbook at a great price. I am extremely happy with it.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect, just remember notebook are not speedy   February 27, 2010
Andrea M (Costa Rica)
I am not using my Acer as my everyday computer, since my eyes might get tired by the small screen. However, it's been perfect for my traveling needs, so light-weighted and compact in my purse or backpack. Great for that purpose! Long lasting battery also.

4 out of 5 stars great buy   February 21, 2010

This is a great little netbook. I have one and use it for meetings, catching up on emails, etc. I just bought one for my daughter who travels internationally - great for traveling.

1 out of 5 stars Un happy   February 17, 2010
Frank Wortmann (Yorktown NY)
The mini computer is OK, BUT Acer's customer service does not care about there customers. Maybe because their product is purchased from a retailer there don't feel a need to work with or help the comsumer. I have purcased several Acer products in the past, but I will never purchase another.
