| Customer Reviews: great laptop to have February 5, 2010 P. Rutledge I have had this laptop for almost a year. I bought it for school. It works great for me. But when I first got it the mouse was always acting up moving around wherever it wanted to go. So I bought a mouse for it and everything goes great now. Lately I haven't needed to use my mouse that I bought for it. I would recommend buy this laptop.
Buy something else August 31, 2009 CS Student 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this because it seemed like one heck of a deal for $350, but it turned out to be a waste of time and money. About two weeks after getting it, something happened(I'm not sure what) and it would not boot ever again (no bios). So, I'm guessing it was either the motherboard or the processor...either way when I did some research I found that this is a common problem with Acer laptops. Do yourself a favor and buy something else, even if you have to pay a little more. Hopefully I'll be able to get a refund for this.

Nice screen, inferior product May 3, 2009 WC Alaska (Alaska, USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've dealt with Acer over the years and their products are getting better. They are I believe the third largest computer company behind Dell and HP. Acer delivers a lot of bang for the buck and was never considered very 'sexy' compared to say a Toshiba or Sony. A friend of mine owns an older Acer that was in Iraq five years ago and withstood two years of sand storms and dropping and still runs great. However, I've noticed that the Acers are lighter and containing more plastic and are more fragile. I bought an Acer Netbook Christmas time and it slipped off my recliner unto a padded carpet and had to be sent back to Acer for repair. That took one month!
Bear in mind when you call Acer you're talking to India. You have to really argue and convince them that there's a hardware problem. As with all India tech support calls, the common fix is to 'reinstall windows.' You have to escalate to get a service person to has authority to actually write out a repair ticket and fill in the database with your request. Quite a feat for them over there!
So, on to this notebook. I bought it from a local computer store and it turned out my wife didn't like it. Although it says 15.6" screen, Acer lopped off two full inches from the top so you get a wide, short screen. That makes for a very narrow window in browsers if you have toolbars and search bars active. Second, the keyboard wasn't centered so she could type naturally. It was set off to the left side, with a 10 key numeric keypad on the right. That's handy, but it really feels weird typing on the left side of the computer. Next, the case was thin plastic that bent easily and if you moved the screen you could see the images change it was so thin. Not good! The battery that came with it was a three cell unit that gave it about 1 hour of cordless computing. Unforgivable in this day and age. For 30 bucks more they could have included a six cell battery and given the user maybe three hours of use. Also, the amount of crap that loads up is unbelievable. It took me a day to remove everything from the laptop to get it running faster. And bear in mind, you have to create your own DVD restore disks since Acer doesn't ship the disks with the computer.
My wife currently owns an older Toshiba 15.4" Satellite. She said get the Acer off her desktop and put her Toshiba back. When I tried to return the computer to the computer store, they said they wouldn't take it back because I loaded windows. Come on! Everyone knows that nowadays it can be restored to factory fresh installation and the computer was three days old, I didn't even take any plastic off it! Remember to find out store policies before you buy the computer! Toshiba Direct has a no questions asked 30 day return policy.
So, I put the wife's old Toshiba back on her desktop. Aaaah, Toshiba quality! You can't beat it! This computer is four years old and has never been rebuilt, but runs rock solid and has a huge bright screen!
Luckily for me I was able to sell the Acer for what I paid for it. Moral of the story? Get a Toshiba with an extended warranty. You won't regret it like I did buying an Acer.
very good! April 27, 2009 Samanthia Tookes 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It is very good and also has a pretty strong video card. There are only 2 things i don't like about this system. First it comes with a heaping load of unessecary software preloaded on it. It also makes a beeping noise when you plug in or unplug the charger when it is on. But still a very very good laptop in my opinion.
