5 out of 5 stars Great Pressure Cooker   November 19, 2009

This is a sturdy, large capacity (not for canning) pressure cooker. I like the top, releases pressure accurately but stores connected to the top so it won't get lost in the cabinet. I waited a long time to buy this on sale.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Kitchen Addition - Good Value   November 1, 2009

Finally needed to replace pressure cooker that came to our marriage 37 years ago. Found this Wearever by accident while surfing the net. As I write, it is producing another one of my Frijoles Puercos - Refried Beans with chorizo for our Dia de los Muertos - celebration.

The price in relation to quality of product is a great value. It is a good heavy utensil. It locks and unlocks quite easily. The pressure gauge refinement is wonderful. Handles well, cleans well! No need to "fear" those pressure cookers. They can work wonders.

Sure can believe that this one will last us at least another 37 years.

4 out of 5 stars Nice cooker but annoying   October 12, 2009

It's really nice and it's stainless steel. Great price for the product but, annoying after 10psi it releases pressure, so every 10-15 seconds you'll hear it releasing pressure.

Sonya Collins,
Since the price is so low ($24 as of today Oct 5, 09), may be you could buy another pot and use it for spare parts. That's what I did. I figured that in 2 years or so I would need to replace the gasket, which cost approx $10 - $15. If the handle breaks, it costs another $10 - $15 to replace. So buying another pot for $24 and use it for spare parts makes sense to me. Plus I can use the extra pot for regular cooking. The size of the pot is standard and I already have several lids in my house that fit the pot. It is high quality stainless steel. An 8 Qt regular stainless steel stock pot costs $30 - $80.

By the way, I just bought this pressure cooker for 2 months and I love it. Even though it has only 1 pressure (10 psi), it took the same amount of time to cook the food as my 15 psi Presto. And I can release the pressure without having to pour water over the pot (to check the food during cooking).

1 out of 5 stars Failed expectations and unfair pricing!   September 10, 2009

I do absolutely agree to Birchbaum review.
I also think that Amazon has intentionally withold the important information/features of this pressure cooker in order to lure unsuspecting consumers into buying this product.
I bought this as a gift for my wife and based my choice upon the photograph posted as it looked nice, and I thought the pressure control was built in, similar to the pressure cooker we bought in Germany for my mother in law.
I know my wife is just being nice when she said she like it, as apart from these undisclosed features mentioned in Birchbaum's review, my wife discovered that the rubber gasket is not that fit, and that plenty of steam escapes from the lid handle where the overpressure valve is located eventhough the pressure vent is not blocked. To make it worse, strong steam escaped out of the overpressure safety window as well, and it says on the manual that if this ever happens, the rubber gasket must not be reused again and should be replaced! All of these, just on its first use and the problems are not due to 'operator error' as the user manual was read prior to use, and my wife has been a pressure cooker pro since age 14!
And speaking of replacing, according to the user manual, you cannot order or buy spare parts from the manufacturer but have to search for these from your local hardware stores(namely???) if they sell their spare parts. Which means if the stores don't, then they could not help you. This according to one review is quite true as she needed a part that was lost, but could not find any store to buy the replacement part.
Lastly, I've bought this for $35, but less than a week after my order, the price has gone down to just $26.30 which is quite not fair!!!
I felt cheated and bad wasting my money, but to save myself from further aggravation, I would not bother returning this item since I won't have the customer service I expect, and will not get all my money back anyway.
At least now I learn not to order things online based on appearance or photo, or to buy things which has no satisfaction guaranteed and could not get a full refund. This was my first time to buy a kitchen item to surprise my wife (2nd time to buy a product at Amazon), and I think would be the last. At least my wife fully appreciated my gesture, even if my gift failed.
