Not the best but for this price I am happy February 10, 2010 Timothy B. Riley (San Antonio, TX USA) I am building a collection of Le Creuset cookware since they are the best but it is taking some time because of the cost. I purchased this smallish dutch oven to use until I buy the more expensive version and I have been very happy with it. I think that the quality is good but maybe the QUALITY CONTROL is not so good based on some of the other reviews here.
I think that I got lucky with this one and have found that the exterior finish and the interior porcelain lining to be more than acceptable. This pot is not as heavy as the Le Creuset and I don't think it will last as long, but for forty some-odd dollars it was a good buy.
Do not buy this item!!!!! December 29, 2009 R. T. Greenshields The first dutch oven we received had a rounded bottom, which would made it difficult to brown and cook food evenly. We called the company and they were glad to send another dutch oven at no additional cost. The first time we used the replacement dutch oven preparing Lamb Shanks, we placed the dutch oven in the oven. To our suprise, the handle on the top of the lid blistered. The handle is not oven proof. After having two problems with this item, I feel the quality control of this company is greatly lacking. I did not spend 70 plus dollars on an item lightly and expect the item to hold up for more than one use. My old dutch oven that I am replacing is over 20 years old and is just starting to show the wear it has received over the years.
NOT Oven Proof November 15, 2009 William L. Tyler (Colorado Springs, CO) The description said that the pot could be used on top of the stove or in the oven. I have used it on top several times and obtained satisfactory results. I used it for the first time in a 350 degree oven (about four months after purchase) and obtained satisfactory cooking results, but now the lid looks horrible because the black knob is deformed with heat bubbles and the mounting screw has loosened the knob from the lid.
I suppose it may be helpful to either remove the knob or wrap it in foil for use in the oven.
Looks good, but... June 20, 2009 Daniel Warner (Honolulu, HI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought a Heuck pot as a cheaper alternative to Le Creuset. When I received it in the mail, I was excited to see how good it looked with it's deep red exterior and pearly white interior. I noticed that the surfaces were a little bumpy, not smooth like Le Creuset, but to me that didn't matter as long as it cooked food well. It did serve me well for about a year or so, but last week the porcelain coating started to break off in fairly big pieces. Granted, it was one fourth the price of a similar Le Creuset pot, but I suspect the Creuset will last much more than just four times the Heuck. Don't buy this pot, get Le Creuset, which you will probably be able to pass onto your heirs.
Strong and beautiful June 3, 2009 B. Brown (Wichita, KS) The Heuck is such a good Dutch Oven. Quality plus a beautiful piece of cookware. I love it. Can't go wrong with this piece.
