Wonderful item! October 30, 2009 Rocky Lady (Arizona) I needed a pressure canner to process the sauces and chili I made from my garden tomatoes and decided to try this one. I am totally impressed - I have not only pressure canned dozens of jars of spaghetti sauce, chili, and salsa, I also used it as a pressure cooker to make a huge batch of beef stew and was amazed at how great it came out after only 10 minutes!! I recommend this canner to everyone - it is a good size and also doubles as a water bath canner. Three items for the price of one!!! And so easy to use! It arrived in record time also - days before I expected it. It is my new favorite toy............
The Home Canner October 29, 2009 S. Wentz (Utah) I was very pleased with this pressure cooker. I was able to do 7 quart jars at a time with no problem. It has safeguards and safety information to keep you from getting burned. It has a wonderful booklet with recipes that tells you how to pressure cook just about anything. I found the booklet extremely helpful. I am very happy with this product.
Great purchase!! October 2, 2009 K. Winter (Michigan USA) I was a bit leary of buying a pressure cooker/canner for the first time and especially online, but I was pleasantly surprised at the performance of this product. My husband and I put up about 32 pints of salsa from our salsa garden and this pressure cooker/canner was so easy to use!! The instruction booklet is very easy to follow and our salsa turned out excellent!
No pressure- canning made easy September 20, 2009 G. Wade (Franklin,Ky.) I decided to try canning for the first time. I didn't really know much about it. When I found out that I had to use a pressure cooker/canner I thought no way, it even looks complicated. I am happy to say that with the step by step guide, my presto 16-quart aluminum pressure cooker canning was easy.
16-qt. Presto Pressure Canner too short to can in September 19, 2009 wisecrone (SW Washington) 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I trusted Presto to have a good product. I bought a new pressure canner and, because I never can two layers of pints, I selected the 16 qt. Presto Pressure canner so I could can quarts. It looks good until you put in 7 quarts and find that the 1" water level required above the jars is impossible because it is exactly 1" from the top of the jars to the top of the canner. All water bath canning recipes from forever have stated that you should have a full boil for the specified number of minutes with the water level at least 1" above the tops of the jars. Well, clearly, Presto decided to cut down on the cost of the canner by shaving an inch or so off the top of its canner - much cheaper if you consider the thousands of canners made. By doing this, there is no way you can safely and properly can quarts in this canner. As for canning pressure products with the lid on, I have no confidence that it could be done safely. The only way this canner will can properly is with pints. The highest you can get the water over the top of the quarts is about 1/2" and even then, the boiling will cause it to spill over. Definitely not happy.
