3 out of 5 stars Mixed Review   November 17, 2009
R. Ruiz (San Francisco, CA)
This pot seems like a great alternative to a very expensive Le Creuset and got a good review from Cook's Illustrated.

Unfortunately, after using it less than ten times or so, never putting it in the dishwasher, only ever using wooden utensils to stir things in it, and always washing it by hand, it developed a chip out of the porcelain interior bottom (about 1/4 the size of a dime). Just out of nowhere. No idea why.

Apparently it's got a lifetime warranty, but now I'll have to find paperwork and deal with getting it replaced, and after using it so few times this seems silly.

Even before this issue I noticed it did tend to have things burn on the bottom somewhat too, which surprised me.

Other than that it's been great on the stovetop and into the oven, but overall it's disappointing, and a hassle to have to deal with this.

I looked long and hard for 6 quart enameled cast iron dutch oven that cost around $50. This is it. Look now further! It works great, and cleans easy.

4 out of 5 stars enamel chip   October 25, 2009

I was so excited to receive this and after one use it did chip on the lip. I believe it would really be important to read the care instructions which I still have to do. It's still less expensive by way more than 100 dollars and works really well. There is no guarantee the more expensive won't chip. I've read reviews that those have too. So for the money I am happy. I will just care for it better.

5 out of 5 stars Best pot ever!   October 23, 2009

The Lodge emaneled cast iron Dutch oven is the best pot I have owned. It cooks chili, stews, soups and oven-cooked Italian ravioli gravy best. I have owned other brand name cookware (LeCruset among them), but this one tops them all. Good investment.

4 out of 5 stars Enamel is not perfect, but lifetime warranty cures the problem.   October 5, 2009

I bought this dutch oven about 15 months ago. I was quite happy with the pot and used it about once a week. I started to see little cracks in the enamel on the bottom of the pot after about couple months of use. I was a bit disappointed about the look, but the enamel was still intact, was not chipping. Recently, while cooking, a small piece of enamel in the bottom of the pot, about the size of a penny, came off. My stew had to go to the garbage. I contacted Lodge and sent them my pot for inspection (they paid for shipping). In about 2 weeks Lodge sent me a new pot. I was happy to receive the replacement, I just hope it lasts longer than the previous one. Anyways, it is cheaper than Le Creuset, the quality of these enamel pots might not be the best, as they're made in China, but the lifetime warranty covers for any defects.
