5 out of 5 stars The best there is   September 19, 2009

These hammocks are absolutely perfect. I have used this hammock in my backyard and on camping trips for about 2 years now, and i love it. I've probably spent hundreds of hours napping in this hammock with my girlfriend very comfortably. She weights 121 lbs and i weigh 169, and it hold us perfectly. However, if you dont feel like cuddling up with the person you're sharing this with, i recommend a bigger one. Perfect for one and perfect for two if they really like eachother.

The brazilian, full cotton, unbarred style is the only hammock ill ever buy. Mesh ropes and spacer barred hammocks are just uncomforable, and hard to take a nap because you'll fall out. While staying at disney world, the resort had barred rope hammocks on the waterfront and they sucked. luckily i brought this baby with me and i set it up on a pair of palms and i felt right at home.

I sleep in this thing on any cool night i can instead of my bed. I cant even express how much i love this hammock. My brother moved out and took it with him, so i just ordered another. i've shopped around, and nothing compares to this. Byers of Maine website has the full line of Amazonas hammocks so you can check it out to see how big of a size you want.

just make sure to lay in it DIAGONALLY and hang the ends high enough and far enough. for home i bought super heavy duty dock carbiners and super heavy duty eye bolts at lowes for a total of $10. for camping, id recommend using the carbiners from lowes and 3/8" poly or nylon rope(100' sections for $10 at lowes, or purchase by the foot at 40-60cents per foot). dont cheap out this hardware or you'll come crashing to the ground like i did once with cheaper, wimpy eye bolts while swinging with my girlfriend and i in the hammock.

5 out of 5 stars Hammock Heaven for the porch   July 19, 2008

On impulse I bought a hammock for $2 from a neighbor's garage sale which promptly tore up - but it got me on the trail of finding a good one. I went to the local REI sports store and nearly got a nylon camping/backpack hammock, but what I was really searching for was a full hammock to fit a spot on my porch. Well this is the one and its great fun, hung on hooks installed 11 feet apart and six feet up from the floor. The hammock hangs in a wide loop and to get into it you lower yourself grasping the outside edge which envelops securely. It's quite an experience, like being in a cocoon. The fabric is dense, and currently being in the heat of Atlanta's mid-summer it's best to enjoy the hammock in the coolness after dinner. And wow, it delivers great naps. My pal, a Bichon Frise, loves this and there's lots of room for both him and me. Amazon delivered this within 24 hours, unbeatable.

Note: you will need an S hook or something similar to join the hammock to the hooks on the wall to prevent chafing of the fibers. I look forward to it lasting for years on the porch... I hope.

5 out of 5 stars What a hammock should be   September 27, 2007

I'm not an expert on hammocks but I am very pleased with this product. Once you get the hang of it, it's extremely easy to use and supremely comfortable. It's a great place to spend a few hours with a book and a beer on a hot summer afternoon. And the bright colors look great. I'm 5' 11" and weigh about 195 pounds and this hammock can hold me without any problem. Note that you will need to purchase tree straps and karabiners or some other device to fasten this to your favorite uprights. All in all, a very satisfying purchase.

3 out of 5 stars good, but not great   September 19, 2007

while this hammock is more than adequate, i feel it didn't quite live up to the other glowing reviews it received. the hammock's manufacturer encourages you to go "brazilian style", meaning to lie diagonally across the fabric, instead of lying lengthwise and being swallowed by the cocoon of fabric. But instead of feeling incredibly relaxed, ala being on a beach in Brazil, I end up with a slight neck cramp from trying to keep my body from slipping down to a "normal" hammock position.

Cute and colorful, it's definitely a fine hammock, but I feel there are probably better ones out there.

I also think that hammocks, like shoes, are things that you can't purchase online. You must sit, lie and test to make sure it's the right "fit" for you.
