Product Description
The one thing that probably discourages more people from purchasing and using cast iron is maintenance. Like carbon steel woks, cast iron cooking pieces require "seasoning." To many this is a mysterious or overly time-consuming process. Even if you treasure fond memories of eggs and pancakes cooked in grandmother's ancient, blackened skillet, you might have no idea how to turn your new pan into such a treasure. Fortunately Lodge has come out with the new Logic line, which has been evenly coated on all surfaces with an electrostatic spray of vegetable oil. Next the cookware is put into an extremely high temperature industrial oven which bakes the coating into the surface. Not only will you be spared the time and effort of seasoning, but also the new piece you buy will look and perform better than if you had seasoned it at home. Just like that heirloom pan you will find that even pineapple upside down cake doesn't stick to this surface. It's two cookware pieces in one! Use the flat side for frying up pancakes, eggs, bacon, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Flip it over and use the grill for veggies, tuna steaks, chicken breasts and more!

Amazon.com Review
The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box.

This professional-size cast-iron grill/griddle combo from the Lodge Logic series measures 20 by 10-1/2 inches (with an actual cooking surface of 19-1/4 by 8-1/2 inches), serious enough to straddle either a campfire or two burners on your stovetop. The reversible feature of this crowd-pleasing cooker means you can use the smooth side for cooking flapjacks, eggs, and grilled cheese sandwiches, and the ridged grill side for hamburgers, steaks, and sausages. A slight slope drains fat into a generous grease gutter, and the two loop-style handles provide safe transport. After the meal is done, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately. Lodge covers the sturdy griddle with a lifetime limited warranty against defects. This pan is guaranteed to pass down from one generation to the next. --Ann Bieri

4 out of 5 stars Once you get used to it....   March 10, 2010

You have to grease this a few more times before you get the non-stick effect, and try it on a lower heat first and work your way up, but once you get the hang of it, it's great. Try Earth Balance margarine to grease it - coats better than oil.

I previously had an electric griddle which pales in comparison to this cast iron one. I primarily use it on my gas stovetop and it's so easy to cook with and cleaning is simple.

The Lodge Logic Pro 20-by-10-7/16-inch cast iron grill/griddle is all that I hoped for--it fits on two burners of my rather old gas stove, arrived well seasoned, and heats evenly. I do recommend purchasing the weight for grilling bacon. I expect this griddle will be used by my great grandchildren, with proper cleaning and care. A top quality product, made in the USA.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   February 6, 2010

As I expected from Lodge Logic, this product is great. It came in a timely manner, and my husband loved it. He wanted one for Christmas, and has been using it every week ever since. We have done everything from omlettes to bacon to burgers. It is preseasoned, so there was very little need to condition it before use. Like all cast iron, it only gets better with age, and we can tell that it is doing so with each use. Great product, great price. Can't beat it.

5 out of 5 stars Best griddle out there!   February 4, 2010

I've had this griddle for close to three years now and we use it all the time. We absolutely love Lodge products. We are cast iron cooks, no doubt! This griddle is used multiple times per week. We use this grill/griddle for veggie kabobs, steaks, hamburgers, fish, bacon, eggs - you name it, we cook it on this grill.

We live in a condo with very little outdoor space, so this grill really comes in handy.

Yes, it's heavy - it's cast iron. Cleaning is quite simple (I have an extremely tiny kitchen, and I can manage this in a normal sink) - Use extremely hot water (never soap) and a steel sponge - it may take some scrubbing - especially in the grill divets, but it cleans beautifully.

To re-season cast iron, rub some veg oil all over it, place on rack in the oven at 400 degrees - place a pan on the rack beneathe it to catch any oil drippings, and bake the cast iron for a few hours until it gets a beautiful shiny black coating. I re-season all of my cast iron probably more than necessary, but it helps retain it's non-stick capabilities.
