Amazon.com Review Ideal for myriad cooking options, this four-piece set is sturdily made of 18/10 stainless steel. Key to the set's versatility is an 8-quart pot with an aluminum disk in its bottom to conduct heat quickly and uniformly. With or without its tempered-glass lid, the pot can be used for simmering soup or stock and for cooking beef stew or pasta sauce. Two steamer inserts come along, a shallow one for steaming vegetables, fish fillets, or pieces of poultry and a deep one for cooking pasta or steaming lots of vegetables. The entire set is dishwasher-safe, and the aluminum disk in the pot's bottom is fully enclosed in stainless steel for a uniform look and easy cleanup. The inserts are highly polished, while the pot has a contemporary brushed-steel exterior with a mirror-finish band under the rim. The set carries a 10-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack
Product Description Now multi-cookers are available in a wide variety of materials and configurations, and there is also variation in terms of price. It pays to compare, as you will perhaps be happier in the long run with a well-made quality pot that was moderately priced vs. the cheapest thing you could find. This pot from Calphalon offers not just heavy 18/10 stainless steel construction, but also an aluminum disk base, a tempered glass lid, and two steaming inserts. Use the big one for cooking and draining pasta, use the smaller one for steaming fish, veggies or chicken. This also makes a fab pot for making stock, soup, or marinara sauce in bulk.

how did I live without this? November 19, 2009 Ginger O. (Berkeley, CA USA) I cook every night for 4-5 people. I thought I had all the necessary equipment. But I just recently purchased this pot and it has made my life so much easier. I can steam tamales. Or corn. Or parboil ribs before putting them on the grill. I can boil tiny potatoes and steam broccoli at the same time. You can monitor the food via the see-thru lid. There is a steamer basket as well as a strainer for pasta. It's just the right size - not too big, not too small. I recommend it!
Calphalon 8-Quart Multi Pot Set April 21, 2009 Gwendolyn Norcross (Atlanta) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Perfect for the reasons I purchased it, cooking pasta and steaming veggies. With the pasta insert I can steam a whole head of cauliflower and a big head or two of broccoli all at the same time. I also like that I can cook pasta, linguine, drain the water and replace the pasta insert with linguine back in pot, put the glass lid on and it stays warm in pot. Also, great for corn on the cob. I haven't used the smaller steamer insert at all. I don't use the pot for soups or stews, I have a Calphalon 10-quart Dutch Oven for that (pot roast and chili). I am especially happy to find this set after purchasing an 8-qt pasta insert a couple of years ago that I thought would fit my old Calphalon 8-qt stock pot only to discover that it only fits a Calphalon Contemporary 8-qt pot. That was a waste of money because it's never been used. However, I'm VERY happy with this set because it's perfect for the reasons I bought it and I highly recommend it. It's easy enough to clean with hot soapy water, then I use the dishwasher just to drain it.
WHAT A GREAT POT! March 16, 2009 Joyce Polio (Woodbridge, CT) This pot is excellent quality. A little hard to clean and for some reason the dishwasher leaves spots on the bottom. I do recommend it though. Easy storage but you need a tall space.
Versatile kitchen tool February 7, 2009 Patricia Farmer (Redondo Beach CA) Excellent stock pot with heavy bottom and clear lid to review cooking progress. Steam baskets add versitility.
Works great! January 17, 2009 M. Smith (Sacramento) This is a great set. The bottom of the sauce pan is plenty thick for browning and sauteing. Each part fits together well. The pasta strainer lifts out easily (but don't over-fill with water when cooking pasta or it will boil over), and the folding inner handles on the steamer basket are handy. Highly recommended.
