Amazon.com Review
Henckels's International line offers affordable cutlery from one of the world's most renowned knife manufacturers. The Fine Edge Stylus collection stands out for its ergonomically-contoured stainless-steel handles, giving a kitchen a decidedly modern elegance. This eight-piece set contains the following basics: 3-inch paring knife, 5-inch serrated utility knife, 6-inch utility knife, 8-inch chef's knife, 8-inch bread knife, 8-inch carving knife, 9-inch sharpening steel, and a graphite-painted storage block.

Constructed of stamped, high-quality 18/10 stainless steel, the knives feature precision-ground, hand-honed blades that slice meat and chop vegetables with aplomb. While not at the same height of excellence as other Henckels cutlery, the Fine Edge Stylus knives feel well-balanced with a noteworthy heft. All pieces store in the included graphite-painted wood block. Made in China, the cutlery is dishwasher-safe yet best washed and dried by hand immediately after use. A lifetime warranty applies. --Ann Bieri

4 out of 5 stars Nice Knife set   December 4, 2008
Rob Edwards (Oklahoma)
This is a nice set of knives. I purchased them for show more than anything. My entire kitchen is stainless steel and I purchased this set to sit on the counter and look good with everthing else. What I found when I started to use them was that they are nice quality and hold an edge. Looks and quality, great combination.

As usual, nothing is good from China. How could J.A. Henckels get dull after a few weeks of use. Just like the pistol in the "Dark Knight" movie. Don't buy them. Spend a little more bugs for real J.A. Henckels (Germany) and true investment.

4 out of 5 stars Great deal for the price!   November 18, 2008

I bought this set as a Christmas present, but had to check it out before I wrapped it. I have a Henckels block and some Henckels knives as well, both the cheaper Chinese "International" and some more expensive German ones as well. The "International" Henckels knifes I have are wooden-handled, poorly balanced, flimsy and somewhat poorly made. I wanted to be sure that these knives didn't suffer from the same deficits before gifting.

I was quite pleased to see that this set of knives greatly exceeds the quality of the cheaper Henckels knives I own, and approach the quality of some of my most expensive knives. They are well balanced, sturdy, well-made and beautiful. The grip seems like it would be of no concern to me (some other reviewers have pointed out that the stainless grip offers little purchase) but I didn't use them for any cutting work.

Overall, I am jealous, and tempted to buy another set for myself. Just not sure the wife would permit two blocks on the kitchen counter. This set is a steal at twice the price.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Knife Set   November 4, 2008

This knife set is well constructed and has a nice weight to it. The only downfall is that it is missing slots for the set of steak knives that are sold separately.

These knives are OK. For their price, they're actually decent. But these are, after all cheap, stamped knives. Expect to toss them after a year, and expect to sharpen them often, but not in a sharpener for nice knives.

The block is surprisingly good-looking. The set as a whole goes very well in my super modern kitchen. I plan to keep using the block with nicer knives.
