Product Description
Cuba's number three official today — Commander Juan Almeida — was secretly working with JFK in November 1963 to overthrow Fidel. The U.S. government recently revealed Almeida's work for JFK, allowing the updated trade paperback of Ultimate Sacrifice to tell the full story for the first time (complete with new photos and documents). The authors obtained the story from almost two dozen associates of John and Robert Kennedy, starting in 1990 with JFK's Secretary of State Dean Rusk. Their accounts are supported by thousands of newly-released files at the National Archives. Almeida's "palace coup," set for December 1, 1963, was to be backed up by U.S. forces "invited" in by Commander Almeida, then Chief of the Cuban Army. However, three Mafia bosses being targeted by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy used several CIA assets to infiltrate the secret plot and murder JFK. This resulted in cover-ups by officials like RFK and LBJ, to prevent the exposure of Almeida and a possible nuclear confrontation with the Soviets. The new edition explains why Almeida was not a double agent, why Fidel suspected Almeida's ally Che Guevara, and what Fidel did in 1990 when he finally found out about Almeida's work for JFK.

Insufficient evidence January 18, 2010 John D. Sens Too much verbiage, speculation, and surmise. Too little solid evidence. The foundation for the authors' conclusions is lacking. This book has earmarks I often see in conspiracy books - multiple repetitions of certain "facts," obvious objections ignored or dismissed out of hand, jumping to a conclusion when there is information to support an opposing or differing conclusion, and holding back significant information on one questionable theory or another. (Here in the interests of "national security.") This book likely made money and may have added something to the ongoing seach for truth about the Kennedy assassination, but it isn't the final answer. I don't know when, if ever, a solid, comprehensive, determination will be made. On Nov. 22, 2010, 47 years will have elapsed since the assassination. Maybe that's long enough that all files can be opened to public scrutiny without the danger of involving well-connected living persons who had something to fear. We'll see.
How to quiet a conspiricy nut's heart January 7, 2010 Singing Sparrow (Richmond, CA, US) I truly appreciate this huge book-huge in all the definitions. I was drawn to it when I saw that Thom Hartmann worked on it with Lamar Waldron. I trust Thom Hartman.
The historical detail is wonderful and so helpful for clarifying memory of those times. The story is sordid and depressing, one of conspiracy on top of conspiracy that ended up with the murder of our president. No one was innocent everyone seemingly guilty of some major evil-yuck. ( No academician here!!)
I don't think that Kennedy could get the nomination now nor do I believe that a little rat like Hoover could so easily control people now.
This book is so worth the time if you have a burning desire to understand more of what happened to us with the murder of John Kennedy. I highly recommend it.
Unraveling the Conspiracy November 28, 2009 Scripture Studier (WI,USA) This massive tome didn't answer all of the questions or solve all of the mysteries surrounding the JFK assassination, but it did address some discoveries that followed the recent release of de-classified government documents.
Thom Hartmann and Lamar Waldron did a terrific job of explaining what fueled the coverups for so many decades.
It's been widely suspected for years that organized crime was deeply involved in the assassination but unable to pull it all off or plan it themselves. Well, this book explains why and how they used different participants, some of them unwitting, to kill John F. Kennedy. Another revelation was the two other planned attempts to kill JFK.
In addition to the mafia aspects of the conspiracy, various intelligence and other government agencies' connections are detailed also. There was far more going on regarding Cuba than I read about before!
Some of the material is repeated in parts of the book. I appreciate that. With a complex conspiracy like this some details bear repeating.
ULTIMATE SACRIFICE builds on various theories from the past. Waldron and Hartmann did a lot of research and the results are one of the best and most current books available on the subject!
The hype from some of the earlier reviews is more than justified.
I suggest this as one of the "must read" books about the JFK assassination.
Detailed, Plausible, Wordy October 20, 2009 Douglas K. Jones (Ohio) There is so much going on in this book it's easy to get lost unless you've done your homework. This is not the typical JFK assassination book. This book focuses on the why, who and how and spends little time on the act itself. In the mid 80's I was introduced to this topic and by the late 80's had absorbed quite a bit of material. Based on the books, articles, eyewitness accounts and actual testimony from the Warren Commission's volumes I decided that the Mafia and somehow the CIA was involved. This was a common conclusion by people who just couldn't swallow the "official" story since so much pointed toward conspiracy. The problem was the only way for it to truly make sense was that the FBI and some other key elements of the government, including his own brother, had to assist in either a cover up or prevention of a complete and full investigation. That's where most people have their struggles in accepting conspiracy in this case. No way all those people could work together or at least against the discovery of a conspiracy, especially his own brother. With so much pointing to a bigger story than Oswald acting alone I figured someday we might find out what that was, but I wasn't holding my breath. For all those parties to have acted with the same basic goal of not allowing the truth to come out it must have been something big. Without doubt this is the most plausible of scenarios and the general concept itself so perfectly describes why the true investigation of the death of JFK could not be completed and why even his brother would have to be involved with the immediate aftermath. There is more basis in fact regarding the Why than in anything else I've ever seen. I've never understood the shear desperation that the Mafia bosses found themselves in that they would attempt something so bold and how they expected to get away with it. There is still much to be discovered about all this but we'll never know all the details. I'm satisfied that my beliefs have been validated as close as they likely ever will be. It seems clear that due to the complexity involved no one person would ever be able to provide all the details start to finish about the assassination of JFK. The authors present their findings as absolute truth but don't declare the case to be closed like the hack Gerald Posner, who's book often borders on fiction. In the early 90's over 60% of Americans believed in a conspiracy, I think around 25% in Oswald and the rest undecided. I have a feeling a lot of the undecided's would vote for conspiracy now that we are presented with a plausible explanation to tie up some of the loose ends many people had questions about. The simplest explanation is not always the answer as I think the authors prove out in this book.
