New Super Mario Bros. Wii, like all the previous releases in the Super Mario Bros. franchise is a side-scrolling platforming game where players collect coins as they attempt to make their way through progressively more difficult game levels using their ability to time jumps over obstacles and avoid a slew of enemies. But although the game contain several well-deserved nods to previous games in the series in the form of iconic characters like Mario, Luigi and two Toads, as well as familiar enemies, sound effects and levels, it is not simply another trip down Mario Bros. memory lane. Taking advantage of the flexibility and power of the Wii and Wii Remote, New Super Mario Bros. Wii manages to preserve the retro experience that fans love about the series, while adding new game features. Notable additions among these include, expansive play levels and new powerups and characters, but by far the most important, and in fact game-defining new feature is simultaneous multiplayer. Since the very first Super Mario Bros. game took the world by storm in the late 1980s gamers anxious to get into the action have patiently and impatiently waited their turn as the infamous 'player 2.' Controller Choices Via the Wii Remote
In another nod to the series' Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) roots, the Wii Remote controller used with New Super Mario Bros. Wii is held sideways, allowing for easy, classic inputs using the D-pad to direct playable characters, the 1 button to jump and 2 button to spit out projectiles like snowballs and fireballs. In addition, players can access powerups with their choice of either the push of a button, or by shaking the Wii remote, again demonstrating the perfect merging of classic gameplay and modern game design which is New Super Mario Bros. Well, I'm going to start off by saying that this review is going to be short and sweet. Most of the other extensive reviews on the game that are listed here have just about said it all. This is one of those games you just have to play. I mean, this is a New Super Marios Bros. How could you ever think that this wouldn't be fun? Nintendo really has pulled out all the stops for this one, and it's paying off. This game takes elements of all previous Mario Bros. titles and puts them in a blender and what comes out of it is just wonderful. If you like any of the previous Mario Bros. titles, then you definitely will like this one. It has fun and challenging gameplay, multiplayer, cooperative modes, competitive modes, and even unlockable videos that will show you hidden goals, tricks, and strategies for locating certain items/areas. The graphics look really good in 480p and the sound is true to the classic Mario Bros. sound. All in all, this is a great game to add to your collection, and you will definitely spend many, many hours of your life playing it. It's been said before and I'm gonna say it again, this game in itself is a reason to own a Nintendo Wii, period! Order now, you won't be disappointed.
 Problem saving the games....frustrated November 19, 2009

It started ok but then I realized that I was not able to save wherever I wanted. If I die before I beat the castle, I will be brought back to the starting point of the level....The Quick Save just doesn't work effectively at all. This really frustrates me and I decided to stop and sell the game :-(

Wow. I just got this game from Amazon and I am extremely pleased with everything! New Super Mario Bros. Wii takes every past Mario classic and combines them together to make the best platformer to date. Mario has access to a ton of new power-ups and also some awesome new moves. I've noticed that Mario moves a lot like he did in Mario 64 which is great. He can do the triple jump, butt-smash, spin jump from Super Mario World, slide down hills, and much much more. Everything about this game is fluid and smooth. The graphics are very crisp and clean, but they obviously don't compare to Super Mario Galaxy. This is no big deal because Nintendo wasn't focusing on making top-notch graphics, but instead classic and challenging gameplay. There are lots of enemies, and many little Nintendo touches that make this game memorable already. The World Map is much like Super Mario Bros. 3, but is slightly reminiscent of Super Mario World, also. Many of the criticisms that I've read don't seem apparent to me when playing this game. Mario moves different, but definitely not like a "tank." NSMBW is far from boring, and each level has so many secrets waiting to be found. Single player is fun all by itself, so if you are worried about not getting this game because you "don't have friends," don't think twice. It's worth it no matter what your situation. If you didn't like Mario games before, this is the perfect game to start with. Again, I am so impressed with what Nintendo has done with this one and I can't say enough to try and convince everyone that this game deserves Game of the Year. Forget all of the lazy reviews - this game is getting underrated scores for things that aren't even necessary. Online multiplayer wouldn't be nearly as fun as local multiplayer, and this is a game that many critics are deciding should have a lower score because of certain things they want coming into the game. Play the game for yourself and decide. Thank you very much, Nintendo, for this instant classic. Welcome back, Mario.

So much fun! I beat Paper Mario in less that 2 days and this is going on our 4th day so it definitely provides hours of fun. And it's great being able to play the game with my husband at the same time. Loves it!

My wife and I have played through worlds one and two, and we are both really enjoying the game. The game is a very good combination of challenge and fun, and we've found ourselves laughing out loud at the fun and intensity of the experience more than once.
