Gameplay
Like the previous game in the series which centered around the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games features player chosen characters entered into event from and inspired by the upcoming 2009 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. The game features a variety of play modes, both single player and multiplayer (coop and competitive). Within these players can choose to enter individual events or compete for all the events in the Olympiad. In addition to actual Olympic events players can also participate in winter-themed mini-games sprinkled throughout the game. Due to the overwhelming number of snow and ice sports making up the events of the Winter Olympics, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games makes extensive use of the Wii Balance Board, although it is not mandatory for play.

Plenty of Events
Prepare to compete in the Olympic Winter Games with your friends and family like you never thought possible. The action in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is made up of a combination of actual Olympic sports and special Dream Events, which are winter-oriented activities all about fun and that are specific to this particular game. Just a few of the actual Olympic events that players can look forward to trying their hand at include: alpine skiing, ice hockey, speed skating, bobsled, figure skating (singles) and snowboard halfpipe. Dream events include, but are not limited to: dream ski cross, dream snowball fight and dream alpine skiing.

Your Favorite Mario and Sonic Characters
Play as your favorite characters from the world of Mario and Sonic. All the characters featured in the earlier game, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, are available as playable characters, including Luigi, Tails, Yoshi, Knuckles, Princess Peach, Amy Rose, Bowser, Daisy and many more. Each character comes with his/her own unique movements and stats, making them better suited to certain events and less so to others. In addition to the characters noted above players can look forward to seeing a few new faces, like Donkey Kong, Metal Sonic, Bowser Jr. and Silver.

In-Game Customization
In addition to the wide variety of playable characters available in game, built-in WiiConnect24 functionality allows players to import their favorite Miis into the game as playable characters. Monies earned for success in-game can be used to customize either game provided characters, or a player's Mii. This is done through the variety of in-game shops available to players. These include: a Boutique for customizing clothing and gear; the Sports Shop where players and buy the gear necessary for events themselves; a Music Shop for fun Mario and Sonic tunes, and more.

This game is so much fun...one warning however, my ARM was killing me the next day from Curling too much the night before. ENJOY!!

4 out of 5 stars Winter Madness   March 13, 2010
Michael Kerner (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.)
When it has came down to video games, we honestly haven't had that many that really brought out the excitement of the Winter Olympics. Nevertheless, one of the most enjoyed sporting competitions hasn't really received that much love from the video game world. thankfully for Nintendo and Sega, they definitely have shown that with Mario & Sonic for the Summer Olympics back in 2008. That game proved honestly to be one of the most surprising and entertaining games for the Nintendo Wii. It definitely showed that the 2 mascots have definitely shown a real challenge with bringing better Olympic action than what had been shown on television. Now, that the Winter Olympics had past, there still is a lot of great joy from what Nintendo has to offer in their olympic excitement.

Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter games for the Nintendo Wii, brings in more excitement and challenges to the hard core Mario or Sonic gamers' eyes. As you challenge yourself through amazing events that are just filled with excitement and challenges that really test your mind. The graphics look amazing, and bring in great thrills of classic Olympic action, as you play your favorite characters like Tails, Sonic, Mario, Yoshi, as well as Dr. Robotnik, Wario and many others. There are many challenges that really test your mind and gameplay from the addictive Festival gameplay, where you can compete against other challengers in games like Curling, Speed Skating, Dream Figure Skating, Dream Speed Skating which leads you down a extreme race track through Dr. Robotnik's Fortress and robot factory which can be set in a Mario Universe of a Sonic setting to your liking. While the challenges are great, the controls at the game through certain events can be a bit frustrating at first, and take sometime to get used to in certain events like dream gliding and curling, but they are much easier to handle than those form the Nintendo DS edition. There are also a few great things to unlock like costumes for your Mii's and fun customizations for Bobsledding and snowboarding.

All on all, despite a few flaws, I absolutely enjoyed Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games. It honestly is a fun and exciting challenge for your Wii, and brings out all the Olympic action to your living room, that is beyond your imagination and what you could possibly desire that wasn't fully there in Vancover this past February. If you've never played the first Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games, or if you've loved the first one, give this one a nice whirl, and snowboard, skate, and ski your way to the gold.

5 out of 5 stars Fun for the Whole Family   March 4, 2010
D. Coleman
My wife, 4-year-old daughter, 2-year-old son, and I all love this game. The balance board makes it so even our 2-year-old can enjoy the games even though he hasn't mastered the pointing yet. Worth every penny!

5 out of 5 stars Great family fun that gets everyone up having a go   March 3, 2010
Colin D. Saunders (Stamford CT USA)
We got the Mario & Sonic Winter Olympic game for our Wii along with the Wii fit board as a late Christmas present. From day 1 everyone was skiing, snowboarding and sliding down the snow trying to beat each others and their own persoanl bests. Every visitor has had to try it too which adds to the fun and I'm sure hooked more people whne they return home.

The graphics are excellent and we like the fact that if you do fall off the side of the slopes or crash, it gets you back up and in the race very quickly.

I have a 5 year old and 6 year old daughters who prefer this to any of the other Wii games they have played which gives testiment. Maybe now the winter olympics have finished this interest will wane but a great buy.Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
