Product Description
Next in the series that s part paranormal whodunit, part urban fantasy (Publishers Weekly) by the author of Wraith.

Zoe Martinique has the extraordinary ability to travel outside her body at will. When she is drawn into an investigation of a series of bizarre murders, in which the victims are missing body parts, Zoe hopes to help her boyfriend, Atlanta homicide detective Daniel Frasier, stop the killer one she s sure is from the darkest levels of the astral plane without letting him find out about her special abilities.

Then danger strikes close to home when Zoe s mother disappears, and Zoe must use all the powers at her command to save her even though Zoe knows that, in doing so, she may make herself into something no longer entirely human.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Even Bother   October 11, 2008
The Cold One (Earth)
I picked up this book because I thought the concept was great. Unfortunately, I was unable to read past page four. There was too much exposition. I don't like things being explained to me, I like to be shown through action and dialogue. The author made rape the trigger to the character's powers, and while this in itself did not bother me, it was the way the author handled this part that I disliked. It was immediately obvious Weldon did not do prior research on the true reactions of rape victims because if she did, she would have discovered that victims would not be so cavalier about it. The entire explanation came off as disrespectful. Add to that an immature, annoying character voice and I put this book down.

Some people believe you must read an entire book to be able to review it accurately. I say, save yourself the time and pain and just don't bother reading this one!

4 out of 5 stars great read!   September 30, 2008

I read this on vacation and had a hard time putting it down! Very suspensful, fun, funny and plot twisting! It's a fast read too, so it's worth a try!!

I couldn't wait for the sequel to Wraith and it lived up to my expectations. I hope Ms. Weldon produces another book soon!

4 out of 5 stars Response to Ruth's post   July 22, 2008

This is the first post I have ever made, because although I love to read, I hate to write. I felt I had to respond to the post by Ruth Ingram. After reading her post, I was expecting something totally different than the first book. I also expected to see the phrase, "nipples popped up like raisins," a bunch of times. The book was written in the same way as the first book. It made me laugh at times, usually due to Zoe's inner dialog (which is one of the things I loved in the first book). I was waiting to be annoyed by the "raisin nipples," but was surprised to not see the phrase till about 1/3 of the way through the book. After reading Ruth's post, I expected to see the phrase repeatedly after this point. I am not trying to be contradictory, but that was the only time raisin's and nipples were used in the same sentence in the entire book. The book lived up to my expectations and I throughly enjoyed it. The one thing I will comment on is that it definitely leaves a lot of questions unanswered, which to me is a good thing because that means there should be a third book (there better be!). I would also liked to have seen a small section that reminded me of what many of the words meant (kind of like a dictionary). I tended to forget the exact specifications of some of the words (e.g. symbiont, Phantasm, etc). Overall, this was a great read for me!

3 out of 5 stars SHORT OF THE FIRST ONE   June 16, 2008

THIS IS THE SECOND IN A SERIES AND FRANKLY I am somewhat disappointed.
She has a great story line and a new plot but somewhere she digressed
into an almost girlish silliness at times. If her nipples pop up like
raisens one more time I will scream. I will buy the next to see if it
has been corrected, still a worthy read.
