Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
In 1836, when she was nine years old, Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped by Comanche Indians. This is the story of how she grew up with them, mastered their ways, married one of their leaders, and became, in every way, a Comanche woman. It is also the story of a proud and innocent people whose lives pulsed with the very heartbeat of the land. It is the story of a way of life that is gone forever....

5 out of 5 stars Not Ur expected western   November 17, 2009
E. Brown (rising above it all)
WOW - THIS IS NOT AN EZ READ - VERY EXPLICIT - VERY BRUTAL AND GRAPHIC TORTURE - PLEASE BE WARNED - NOT UR USUAL WESTERN

With that being said, please read . . . .

This was REAL life for these people, our ancestors, here we are in our "safe" lives and these people didnt know if they would live to see tomorrow - but that didnt stop them from loving, bearing children, enjoying all "their" world had to offer!

I'm pretty sure I could not have survived 1 day in those times.

Historically ACCURATE - CAN U take a moment to "walk in their moccasins" ITS NOT AN EZ WALK,

NEVER before have I felt so much like a voyeur -- BY READING a book, like Im walking, AND/OR riding - right along with the characters
THAT REALLY WALKED THIS EARTH!

I have lent this book to friends I thot would enjoy -- they read 1st few pages and gave back - "its tooooo much for me . . . "
GROWN MEN cant "handle" reading how horrible human beings treated each other!

CAN U ??? . . . . .

5 out of 5 stars Compelling   November 1, 2009

As a teen, I found this book in my grandfather's box of Western books after he passed away. I had no interest in Western novels, but I was desperate for something new to read. I instantly fell in love with this book, and 15+ years later, it remains one of my all time favorites.

Cynthia Ann Parker's life is fascinating - a girl kidnapped by Comanche indians, forced to see her white family killed, desperate to return to her family; yet she finds love and acceptance in her captors. Many years later, she is recaptured by the whites, and ironically, tries desperately to return to her Comanche family.

I would definitely recommend this book!

5 out of 5 stars Ride The Wind   October 23, 2009
Carol A. Lasorsa (Los Molinos, CA USA)
This is an EXCELLENT book for those who like novels about the American Indian. It is extremely factual about Quanah Parkers life, and his mother, Cynthia Parker. I found his history in a Time Life Book and all the facts are the same. I purchased it years and years ago and lost it. I just had to have another copy for my library. I highly recommend this book.

I have read this book over and over since it came out in the 1980's. It is a facinating story that shows the struggles of the Native Americans. I have shared this book as gifts many times and it has always been much loved by everyone who reads it!

5 out of 5 stars I felt like I was there   July 23, 2009
I have read many "indian" stories some true some fiction, but this was by far one of the best reads. It captures you, haunts you, excites. I could not put it down. It is so wonderful to read about OUR history, it does not matter if you are American Indian or white or any ethnic, it is history I feel that needs to be heard. A very touching historical read. I could envision everything as if it was playing out right in front of me. I recommend very highly.
